Hi. I’m Zack Nipper, and I’m lucky to have done a lot of artwork for Bright Eyes albums over the years.
Another of my favorite bands, since I was in middle school, is The Cure. I was very excited to hear about the Secret 7” contest run by Talenthouse. Above is my entry in this contest, where I can win the chance to design a 7” sleeve for The Cure’s song “Friday I’m In Love” which will then be auctioned off for charity.
The 50 winning sleeve designs will be decided by a combination of voting and selections by the band. If you could vote for my submission, it would give me the chance to do something I’ve always dreamed about!
Here’s the link to my submission page. You can vote with your Facebook or Twitter account. ***VOTING ENDS IN TWO DAYS, so there’s not much time left!! (Thursday at noon Central Time)***
As you can see, the sleeve design doesn’t have the band name or song title on it. The rules state that you have to leave that off, so that there’s some mystery during the charity auction (there are six other bands besides The Cure in the contest). Hence the “Secret 7”” name.
The artwork is cut paper, gold foil, vellum, black marker, and a bit of tweaking in photoshop. I used a kind of modified calendar page, showing only one Friday. I changed the layout of the days, because I didn’t want it to be too literal, and also liked that the grid made it look like a window. I picked Friday the 13th because that’s the day my daughter Kate was born.
Thanks for looking and I hope you can support me! It would be a dream come true to win.
—Zack
